IAS allotment awards 2026

Entries are now open for the 2026 Ipswich Allotment Society Annual Allotment Awards.

All IAS members are invited to enter their plots for judging by completing the self-nomination form. This year, entries must be submitted by individual members; field committees will not be making nominations.

The award categories are:

  • Best plot on a field
  • Best newcomer plot (tenants only – you must have held your plot for less than one year)
  • Best organic plot
  • Best school or youth group plot

You may enter as many categories as you wish, provided your plot meets the eligibility criteria.

In addition to the overall category winners, recognition will also be given to a number of highly placed entries, so we encourage everyone to take part.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 28 July 2026. Nominations must be submitted by 11:59 pm on that date.

Judging criteria

Judging will focus on the overall quality and management of the plot rather than on any single feature. Judges will consider the standard of cultivation, the health and diversity of crops, the appearance and organisation of the plot, environmental and sustainable gardening practices, and the condition of structures and working areas. They will also take into account how well gardeners have adapted to any particular challenges of their site, such as difficult soil, shade or unusual plot layouts. The aim is to recognise well-managed, productive and environmentally responsible allotments that demonstrate good horticultural practice throughout the growing season
